PRP and autologous blood injections
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
At Sulis Hospital, we understand how debilitating chronic joint pain and stiffness can be, often making the activities you love feel out of reach. Our Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is designed to offer a regenerative path to recovery, using your body’s own natural healing power to help you find relief and rediscover your mobility.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
PRP is a deeply personal, autologous treatment—which simply means the healing comes "from within you." By taking a small, routine sample of your own blood and concentrating your natural healing proteins (platelets) in our centrifuge, we create a powerful, natural serum tailored specifically to your body’s needs.
When this concentrated plasma is carefully injected into your joint, it works to soothe pain and slow the wear and tear of cartilage, helping you get back on your feet with confidence and comfort.
How PRP Can Help You
If you are living with osteoarthritis, joint degeneration, or a persistent musculoskeletal injury, we are here to support your journey toward feeling better. Our patients often choose PRP because it offers:
- Natural Healing: Supports the reconstruction of your own injured tissue.
- Pain Relief: Gently calms painful inflammation.
- Restored Freedom: Improves your mobility so you can move more easily.
- Future Planning: Helps delay the progression of joint disease, potentially putting off the need for major surgery or artificial joints.
PRP also reduces the need for long-term pain medications and their side effects.
Your Care Experience at Sulis Hospital
We strive to make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible. The entire procedure takes place in our calming outpatient clinic and lasts less than 30 minutes:
- We draw a small amount of blood from your arm, just like a standard blood test.
- While you wait, we process your blood to isolate the healing proteins.
- The serum is carefully injected into the area where you need it most.
It is normal to feel a little localised swelling or soreness for 24–48 hours after the injection. This is just your body beginning its healing work. We recommend bringing a friend or loved one with you on the day for support and a lift home.
We ask that you take it easy and minimise your activity for about 14 days to give the treatment the best chance to work.
Many of our patients feel a decrease in pain after just one week. While the most significant improvements usually are seen around 3–4 weeks after treatment, the healing continues to strengthen over the following months.
A single treatment can provide comfort for up to 12 months. For those dealing with more chronic conditions, we may suggest a course of three sessions to ensure you get the sustained relief you deserve.
If you feel that other treatments haven’t quite given you the relief you need but you aren't ready to consider surgery, PRP therapy may be the bridge to a more comfortable life.
We are here to listen and help you decide on the best path forward. To speak with us about your options, please reach out through our Online Booking Tool to book a consultation with one of our specialists
